A day in Narita

Couldn't get on to our standby flight from Narita to San Francisco and we are told the next available flight is on the following day 4pm, fortunately the airport hotel in Narita isn't too expensive.

Since our flight is at 4pm, we decided to make use of our free morning to explore Narita town. Narita town is just 20 minutes of train ride from Narita airport, cost around 240 yen. There is luggage storage service in Narira airport for around 500 yen.
Breakfast in Narita town. I wanted macha latte.

They serve horse sashimi here
Narita town is like a mini Kyoto, full of old people and old architecture.
Freshly made senbei (rice cracker).
The family is toasting senbei behind

There is a few unagi restaurant here and this is the most popular one as they are more affordable. Note that they only take cash, no credit card payment available.

Grilling unagi on charcoal

"Naritasan was built in the year 940 around its main sacred object of worship, a statue of the Buddhist Fudo Myoo deity. Kobo Daishi, the founder of the Shingon Sect and one of the most important figures in Japan's religious history, is said to have carved the statue."

Japanese believes the incense smoke will chase away back luck, you may see folks fanning the smoke toward themselves, we did that too.

Pretty sure there is an interesting story behind this sword on the gate of this hall, anyone knows?

Naritasan Park is inside the temple.

Unagi time! Didnt have enough Japanese yen so we can only opt for the more expensive restaurant. Apparently Surugaya is the third best restaurant recommended on tripadvisor for Narita.

I don't like fish so i opt for the charcoal grilled chicken. They are so generous in term of portion, chicken is juicy and i love the charcoal burnt smell on the chicken.
The husband's 3 piece unagi bento. Juicy and fluffy but i heard he complained that this unagi has alot of bones.

Our little adventure out to Narita town was short but it was really good, we are really glad that we came out instead of staying in airport.
